BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/bcr-2016218063 DESCRIPTION A man aged 64 years was transferred to the emergency department because of a witnessed syncopal event. It occurred after standing up and he hit the back of his head against the ground. On arrival, the result of his neurological examinations was normal. Brain CT revealed a hyperdense mass lesion. It extended from the posterior aspect of the dens to the upper clival region (figure 1). Blood tests, including coagulation, had no abnormal findings. Dynamic MRI, magnetic resonance angiography and digital subtraction angiography revealed no meningeal tumours, aneurysms, traumatic arterial dissections, and visible fractures or dislocations in the skull base or craniocervical region. He was admitted for close neurological monitoring. On the 8th postadmission day, CT revealed no evidence of residual haematoma (figure 1). He was fully conscious with no headache, and he was discharged on that day. Traumatic REDH is a rare reported entity. Most cases have been reported in children and have occurred after a motor vehicle accident involving hyperextension or hyperflexion injury of the neck. 2 The pathophysiology of the formation of REDH is not fully understood. It is likely to be due to either dura stripping, ligament disruption or clivus fracture. The clinical course of REDH seems to be very benign. REDH can be treated conservatively in the absence of progressive neurological deterioration. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first minor traumatic REDH case in an adult.

A case of post-traumatic retroclival subdural haematoma.
Post-traumatic haematomas in the posterior fossa are uncommon, with a reported incidence of 3%, and occur along the cerebellar convexity [1]. Retroclival location is uncommon and retroclival haematomas are mostly epidural. Only 6 cases of post-traumatic retroclival subdural haematomas (RCSDH) are reported in literature [2]. These are associated with significant trauma and occur in the young. Fo...
متن کاملTraumatic bifrontal extradural haematoma resulting from superior sagittal sinus injury: case report
Traumatic bilateral extradural haematoma resulting from injury to the superior sagittal sinus is rare; in such cases, early surgical evacuation of the haematoma and control of bleeding from the sinus can achieve an excellent patient outcome.
متن کاملA unique presentation of retroclival chordoma.
Chordomas are rare tumours which arise from remnants of the primitive notochord. They occur primarily in the sacrum, clivus and cervical regions. We report a case of retroclival chordoma which presented as an extradural haemorrhage following minor trauma. The underlying tumour was not apparent on imaging performed immediately following the event, and chordoma presenting in this manner has not p...
متن کاملCervical epidural haematoma causing Brown-Sequard syndrome: a case report.
Brown-Sequard syndrome secondary to compression of the spinal cord by an epidural haematoma following minor trauma is rare. A 65-year-old woman presented with neck pain and sudden onset hemiplegia with contralateral anaesthesia. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a haematoma in the epidural space in the C3 to C5 levels. She underwent open-door laminoplasty for evacuation of the haematoma. At the...
متن کاملTRAUMATIC INTRAVENTRICULAR HEMORRHAGE IN SEVERE BLUNT HEAD TRAUMA: A ONE YEAR ANALYSIS
ABSTRACT Background: High resolution CT scan has made early diagnosis of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) easier. Posttraumatic intraventricular hemorrhage has been reported to a greater extent because of the CT scan. Methods: 904 patients were admitted in the NSICU from March 2001 to March 2002 with severe closed head injury, of those only 31 patients with intraventricular hemorrhage (GCS le...
